Did you know that a woman can change her surname to be that of her new husband without having to pay anything, or fill out new forms.
HOWEVER
the husband is not allowed to change his surname to that of his new wife. he must pay $127 for the privilage.
This is in NSW and TAS... Victoria is unsure. They say you can on their website, but then state that VicRoads may need a formal name change (they do not specify which spouse may need to do it formally). Not sure about other states.
There is no formal LAW that states this. It is purely based on Marriage Custom.
